Battle of the sexes

You want the same evening, and different plans.

Two people want to spend the evening together. You prefer the football match. The other person prefers the opera. Both of you would rather be together than apart, even at the event you like less. Together at the match: you get 2, they get 1. Together at the opera: you get 1, they get 2. Apart: you each get 0. A higher number is better.

Where do you go?

Two results stay put: both at the football match, or both at the opera.

You prefer the match, which pays you 2 and them 1. They prefer the opera, which pays you 1 and them 2.

The conflict is which shared evening to pick. Both of you still want to be in the same place.

With no chance to talk, and no usual plan, each of you can go to your own favorite and miss the other.
