Stag hunt
Two hunters can hunt a stag together or a hare alone.
Two hunters can hunt a stag together or a hare alone. Both hunt the stag: both get a large catch. Both hunt a hare: both get a small catch. One hunts the stag while the other hunts a hare: the stag hunter gets nothing, and the hare hunter still gets the small catch. The stag is caught only when both of you hunt it.
Do you hunt stag or hare?
The best result needs both of you to hunt the stag.
If you are not sure the other hunter will choose the stag, the hare is the safer catch.
Two results stay put: both hunt the stag, or both hunt a hare.
Trust decides which one the pair reaches. If you are both on the stag, neither gains by leaving for a hare. If you are both on hares, the one who leaves for the stag comes back with nothing.
